Habersham Farmers Market Hosts Last Market of 2010
Beaufort, SC - December 14, 2010 - The Habersham Farmers Market in Beaufort, SC will host its final market before Christmas on Friday, December 17, beginning at 4 p.m. The weekly market will close out 2010 with live music provided by Laizee Rivers. Its vendors will provide last minute gift opportunities and fresh produce from local growers. Lady’s Island Oyster Company will be steaming local oysters for patrons as they shop for unique handmade gifts. Margot Silva, from Habersham, sells her hand-crafted shoulder bags, purses and table runners made of beautiful patterns and fabrics. Special items from food purveyors include Jannie Smith’s Earthquake Cake, BabyCake Homemade’s Candy Cane Cheesecake and Claudine Creperie’s Banana and Nutella Crepe, to name a few.
Of course, the local growers are always the centerpiece of the farmers market. Otis Daise has a weekly truckload of fresh vegetables from his fields on St. Helena Island including collards, sweet potatoes, onions, beets, broccoli and more. Brant Family Farms provides heirloom and specialty varieties of produce year-round and currently has lettuces, radishes and arugula this time of year that are grown chemical free. Habersham Farms CSA also has a weekly spot at the market to hand out their shares to Beaufort area CSA members. Another mainstay at the Habersham market is Walnut Hill Acres who is currently picking and selling oranges and grapefruits from their farm in Okatie.
